Jacksonville University

Prosser was commissioned by Jacksonville University (JU) to compile a Digital Asset Inventory (DAI) for the entire campus. JU had an immediate need for a comprehensive digital inventory of primary campus assets, including existing utility information, site improvements and building footprints. Additionally, interior building data were categorized using the Facility Inventory and Classification Manual (FICM) classification and Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) standard for planning and management services.

The DAI was generated from scanned architectural floor plans and survey information provided by JU which represented the campus from its earliest development. Buildings, site improvements and utilities were field-verified and geo-referenced through the use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and extensive ground-truthing to ensure the creation of an accurate database. The DAI included the following items:

• Building footprints/outlines

• Interior building improvements

• Subsurface utilities

• Above ground utilities

• Parking fields/areas

• Roadways

• Walkways/paths

• Specimen trees

• Special/unique features

From this point, the campus assets were uploaded into a web-based facility database and management (i.e., Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) program which combines a user-friendly graphical interface and simple to use features called EvolveFM™. The DAI and EvolveFM™ platforms will be utilized for future space planning and utilization analyzes, facility management & planning and campus master planning efforts.
